RE-ANIMUPPET shirt design for FRIGHT-RAGS
"Bunsen Honeydew has a good head on his shoulders... and another one on his desk."
I was recently commissioned by the horror-movie t-shirt masters at FRIGHT-RAGS.COM to create a Muppet/Re-Animator mashup shirt design utilizing the Re-Animator movie poster as a parody base. I have a soft spot in my heart for Re-Animator, and an even softer spot for the Muppets, so this was one of those really fun dream jobs that comes along every so often. I had a great time working on this, and I can't wait to see how it turned out.
Pen, brush and ink with Photoshop colors.

Super-cool PAKKU-MAN kites from Jim Martin!
Every once in a while, someone will do something extremely creative and flattering with my work, and this is one of the most impressive and coolest things I've ever seen someone do with any of my designs. Jim Martin wrote to me a while ago asking permission (bonus points for asking in the first place) to use my PAKKU-MAN design for a project he was working on. Jim told me he makes miniature kites, and wanted to create a PAKKU-MAN kite to enter in the AKA (American Kitefliers Association) Miniature Kite competition. Well, if I believed every sorry soul who came along and told me they wanted to use my artwork on "miniature kites", I'd be pretty a gullible sap, but Jim seemed like an honest guy, so I agreed that this sounded like a cool idea and sent him a non-watermarked digital copy of the design for him to use. He also told me he wanted to make a duplicate kite to send to me, which I was pretty enthused about. Yesterday, a package showed up in the post, and carefully concealed inside were two intricately-crafted, very fragile yet beautiful kites sporting my two versions of PAKKU-MAN. He even included rolls of string and a telescoping pincher arm to fly them with -- AND THEY REALLY FLY!! And you'd better believe I tried them out, running around the house and outside, amazed at how well they flew. The cool part is that they're so lightweight and fragile that you don't even need a breeze to keep them aloft, so unlike normal-sized kites, they won't go plummeting nose-first into the ground if there's anything less than a healthy gust of wind blowing about. All you need is to keep a steady walking pace and these things will soar like a champ!
Anyway, big thanks to Jim Martin for making and sending me these very nice kites. They now hold a place of honor on display in my studio

PREORDER: The order has already been placed with the printer and should arrive and begin shipping around December 16th!
BeastWreck pays homage to that wonderful cultural highlight of its youth, the old-school Classic Arcade. If you're like me, you miss those old arcades with their rows of flickering, pulsating lights and blaring electronic repetitive noise, beckoning you like so many electric bug-zappers to feed rolls of quarters into their greedy mechanical guts as you fondle their joysticks and tap out arcane rhythms on their candy-like buttons with a glazed hypnotic fever!
3-color design soft ink over discharge underbase screenprinted (no thick plastisol inks) on black Hanes 5180 6.1 oz 100% ringspun preshrunk cotton, high stitch-density fabric. 1-color BeastWreck logo printed on back.

ZOMBIE CAGE FIGHTER: TROPHY
Another shirt design commissioned by UFC Fighter Nate "Rock" Quarry for his ZOMBIE CAGE FIGHTER brand. When Nate originally contacted me, he wanted a design similar to by GORILLA GLOVES illustration (which depicts a pair of laceup boxing gloves made out of gorilla hands hanging from a nail). I didn't want to lead off with a design riffing off of one of my own designs, so I steered him in another direction. He held on to this idea, tenaciously, however, so I eventually gave in and gave the poor guy what he wanted! ;)
The shirt is now available for sale at his shop here.

CROC-LORD colors
I think I've got the colors where I want them. Posting a few color options, and I'm trying to decide between a simple 2-color version or a 3-color version which enhances the detail, just a bit. I don't know -- I think I like the 2-color version better, and I wanted to depart from my usual method of cluttering things up with too many colors and just let the detail of the black and white illustration bear the brunt of communicating detail. Since this was originally supposed to be a shirt design for the solidly fantastic band RED FANG (and still might be), I played around a bit with some logo placement just for fun.
CROC-LORD pencils and inks.
This design was originally going to be a submission for the recent t-shirt design contest put on by one of my favorite bands, RED FANG. Alas, deadlines and such got in the way, and paid work always takes priority over contest submissions, unfortunately. I've been working on this in bits and pieces when I've got spare time (which isn't often), but I've finally got it inked and ready to color!

DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: DRIZZ'T DO'URDEN
This was a very exciting project to work on, and I had a great time working on it. Art director extraordinaire Jon Schindehette for Wizards of the Coast (the folks that own Dungeons & Dragons) commissioned me to do some character production artwork for, arguably, their most popular character Drizz't Do'Urden, who was created by R.A. Salvatore, one of the most prominent fantasy writers in the biz. Anyway, they wanted to turn one of the designs I was working on into a shirt design for their upcoming clothing brand, so I reworked the layout and colors, and added some design and text elements, and this was the result, which they released at an R.A. Salvatore book signing. Hopefully, I'll have some news as to the greater line launch soon, and I also hope to be able to share the rest of the artwork soon.

HALLOWEIRDO: "THE HOVERING SPENK"
This posting is a bit late, but I was recently invited by J. Chris Campbell and the fellows at Wide Awake Press to contribute to this year's Halloweirdos blog, where different artist provide Halloween-spirited artwork. I decided to work up one of my old Beast du Jour sketches and give it a polish and a fresh coat of paint. He's called "The Hovering Spenk", and he's a very mischievous alien from a planet where intelligent life evolved from pumpkins. His low-grade telekinesis enables him to hover around about two feet off the ground.
This was a lot of fun to work on, and I'm going to be taking a few more of my sketchbook beasties to final illustration stage very soon.
