Behold, the BEHOLDER!

Those of you into D&D might be interested in this. I was one of 10 artists recently commissioned by Wizards of the Coast to participate in a little art trial where we were all given the task of reinterpreting Wayne Reynold’s fantastic original Beholder artwork in our own individual styles. The results are diverse and impressive, and I think I did okay in the end despite my style not being in the typical “painted fantasy” vein. Check ‘em out here and see what you think!

I'm (of course) not 100% happy with how my piece turned out. The drawing is solid, I think, but I could have done so much better on the colors. This assignment came right smack in the middle of a very difficult and stressful time in my life, so I did the best I could, and it working with art director Keven Smith was a joy, but would definitely love another crack at something like this.

It is very cool to see the differing interpretations of the piece by these different and very talented artists. The other artists involved were Emily Warren, Andrew Robinson, Joy Ang, Mark A. Nelson, Ben Templesmith, Steven Silver, Bobby Chiu, Richard Anderson and Omar Rayyan. There's something I dig about every one of their pieces, but I absolutely love what Andrew Robinson did with the Beholder's face! Big thanks to Jon Schindehette and Keven Smith for including me in this very enjoyable and exciting opportunity, and hopefully I will be able to do some more work for the fine folks at Wizards of the Coast in the near future.

BeastWreck Logo Treatment

Was just messing around, trying some new treatments for my BeastWreck logo. Wanted a slightly off-register printed and weathered look, perhaps for use on a sticker or something. We'll see.

Beast du Jour #14: Double Feature!

Wow -- I haven't posted a Beast du Jour post in quite a while. Been busy and have been neglecting my for-fun sketching, so here's a quick double-feature of some partial beasts to get back on the horse. "Glabb" and "Plaxotyl". Strange fellows, to be sure.

FRIDAY THE 13th PART 2

Got another color job commission from super-cool horror shirt company CREEPY-TEES. This one was for a FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2 design, illustrated again by the amazing Chris Eisert. More complex than the previous HELLRAISER design, but still fun to work on. Can't wait to see how it turns out.
