CROC-LORD final colors for RED FANG

Here's the final color version of my CROC-LORD design for the uber face-kicking band RED FANG. Missed the deadline for their shirt design contest, but I'm hoping they'll pick it up anyway. If not, I'll be printing it myself (without the Red Fang logo, of course). I had a tough time getting the water-nymph just right and had to rework her a couple times, but I think I've got it how I like it now. The image depicts an ancient swamp-dwelling deity who is holding captive one of the benevolent water-nymphs that populates the unseen regions of the swamp.

Penciled version. Note the early version of the water-nymph.

Inks only.

Alternate color version with the MASTODON logo in place, just for fun.

Inks for the reworked version of the water-nymph.

CROC-LORD colors

I think I've got the colors where I want them. Posting a few color options, and I'm trying to decide between a simple 2-color version or a 3-color version which enhances the detail, just a bit. I don't know -- I think I like the 2-color version better, and I wanted to depart from my usual method of cluttering things up with too many colors and just let the detail of the black and white illustration bear the brunt of communicating detail. Since this was originally supposed to be a shirt design for the solidly fantastic band RED FANG (and still might be), I played around a bit with some logo placement just for fun.

This design was originally going to be a submission for the recent t-shirt design contest put on by one of my favorite bands, RED FANG. Alas, deadlines and such got in the way, and paid work always takes priority over contest submissions, unfortunately. I've been working on this in bits and pieces when I've got spare time (which isn't often), but I've finally got it inked and ready to color!
