BLACK DAHLIA MURDER

Was recently commissioned by the guys in the metal band BLACK DAHLIA MURDER to create a t-shirt design for them. They wanted a fellow getting dunked in a vat of acid, so I had some fun with that!

HALLOWEIRDOS 2012: "The Tuberous Squom"

I was once again invited to participate in this year's HALLOWEIRDOS blog over at WIDE AWAKE PRESS, and this is one of my contributions: "The Tuberous Squom"! This is a big forest-dwelling beastie called the TUBEROUS SQUOM. He’s a root-based creature who can pull himself out of the ground when he’s hungry and feels the distinct vibrations of wayward tasty children who have unwisely wandered too far into the woods!

POP-ZOMBIE shirts have arrived!

"Tell 'em LARGE MARGE sent ya'!"

Another commission for FRIGHT-RAGS. This one just went up for sale as a limited edition on their website. They wanted me to try and create a creepy design featuring the most eerie and disturbing scene from a decidedly non-horror movie, PEE WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE. I have a definite soft spot in my heart for this movie, having seen it as a kid and watching it over and over again, so it was a real privilege to be asked to work on this design. You can BUY THE SHIRT HERE!

SLAPS, IT'S ADVENTURE TIME!!

I discovered the brilliantly-twisted cartoon ADVENTURE TIME a couple months ago, and I can't remember the last time a cartoon has come along and fascinated and entertained me like this. It's just chock full of surrealist humour mixed with adventure and pure imagination and joy. I heard about an ADVENTURE TIME t-shirt design contest going on, so I thought I'd try my hand at working on a couple of ADVENTURE TIME designs and see if any of them might be worth submitting. I am having a ball working on this so far, and giving the characters my own tweaked interpretations. The scene, in case you're unfamiliar with the show, depicts the two heroes, Finn (the human) and Jake (the magical dog) doing battle with the wicked Ice King to rescue Princess Bubblegum. The show takes place in some surreal post-apocalyptic world populated by candy-people and strange beasts and creatures. More to come...

GORILLA VS. SQUID rough pencils

About five years ago, when I was just starting out in the world of freelance illustration, I created a GORILLA VS. SQUID design featuring two of my favorite members of the Animal kingdom duking it out and giving each other what for. It got me some attention, though it wasn't very good, and I had always planned on putting on a t-shirt or something. I had some bad experienced dipping my toes into the waters of dealing with screenprinters, and the longer I let the design sit, the less satisfied I was with it. Every once in a while, somebody comes across the design and tells me I should put it on a shirt or something, and while I love the concept of the design, the execution was just way below what I was currently capable of. So, even though you're not supposed to look back and keep reworking old pieces, I just had to dig this one out and recreate it with my current skill-levels, to see what I could do with it, and finally get it put on a shirt or something. These are the rough pencils for the new, reworked design.
And this is the old, colored version.
More to come soon...

Fright-Rags sez: "SEND MORE MUPPETS!"

The fine folks at Fright-Rags were kind enough to ask me to do work on another design for them, and I had to jump at the chance to bring this one to life. In a similar vein as my RE-ANIMUPPET design, which was a mashup of Re-Animator with the Muppets, this one is a Muppet-style take on RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD -- one of my favorite zombie movies ever! Based on the unintentional gag of having two main characters named Burt and Ernie, we decided to change those characters into... Bert and Ernie from Sesame Street, and give some of the other characters a Muppet-makeover! The shirt will be up for preorder at Fright-Rags from July 4th through July 8th, so don't miss out! It's strictly a limited edition! Details can be found HERE!

BEASTWRECK ATTACKS COMMUNITY!

I'm very late with posting this, but I recently had one of those squealy fanboy moments that are rare and special. While watching the season finale of one of my favorite sitcoms of all time, COMMUNITY, I was honored to see the character Abed (played expertly by Danny Pudi) sporting my BEASTWRECK ATTACKS shirt in full view of the world! I knew this was coming (or rather hoped it was), but it was still a lovely shock to the system. I was contacted many months ago, back when most of fandom wasn't even sure if COMMUNITY would be back for the second half of season three, by the amazing Rob Schrab (SCUD: THE DISPOSABLE ASSASSIN, THE SARAH SILVERMAN SHOW, CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL, MONSTER HOUSE) who let me know he was going to be directing one of the upcoming season 3.5 episodes, and wanted to feature one of my shirts in the episode. I was thrilled, got in contact with the costume designer, and worked everything out, sending them two different shirts to choose from. Unfortunately, I later found out that they didn't get things in place quickly enough for the shirt to be featured in Rob's episode, but that it would probably show up in a later one. I waited through several episodes, with no sign of my shirts, and eventually concluded that the scene it was in got cut, or they just decided to not use it after all. So, to see it show up in the season finale was a very nice surprise, and definitely ranks as a career highlight of mine. So, big thanks to Rob Schrab, Sabrina Rosen and Danny Pudi (for making my shirt look even better). I hope this shall not be the last time BeastWreck shows up on the airwaves (is that even something people say anymore -- airwaves?)! And, if you'd like to order a BEASTWRECK ATTACKS shirt, perhaps if you want to dress up like Abed for Halloween, or if you just want to look cool cool cool, you can ORDER ONE RIGHT HERE AT MY BEASTWRECK SHOP! It's available in men's and women's styles.

FRAKKIN' BERRY shirts up for PREORDER!

It's a mashup of the infamous feces-coloring General Mills Monster Cereal FRANKEN BERRY with the 70's-80's version of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. The term "Frak", or "Frakking" was a safe-for-TV futuristic-sounding expletive created for the original Battlestar series. These shirts are now up for preorder at my BEASTWRECK SHOP. Printed, as usual, by Threadbird, it's a 5-color design soft ink screenprinted over discharge underbase (no thick plastisol) on soft creme Canvas 3001 4.20 oz preshrunk 100% ringspun cotton for men and "ivory" Next Level 3300L 3.70 oz preshrunk 100% ringspun cotton for women. Only $18. Shirts are being printed and are expected to arrive the week of June 13th.

BEASTWRECK is now a member of Society6

My BEASTWRECK brand is now a member of SOCIETY6. I thought it was time I offered my designs on more products than I could afford to get printed myself, and Society6 looked like a good fit. My inaugural design is the Donkey Kong tribute, BARREL-CHUCKER! It's available as various sized archival prints, stretched canvas prints, framed prints, laptop/ipad skins and ipod cases/skins! Check it out and Buy cool stuff HERE! And you can also visit my BEASTWRECK SHIRTS & STUFF shop to check out all my soopah-fine shirts, buttons and stickers!
