Rampaging Robot destroys city! Artwork left unfinished! Film at Eleven!

This job is one of those that just remains unfinished for various reasons (funds run out, interest dries up, the client is abducted by aliens). This design was supposed to be printed on a huge banner backdrop along with an accompanying tablecloth design for a merchandise booth to be displayed at conventions and such. It was a difficult job for various reasons, and particularly frustrating, given that it will probably never be seen in all it's printed glory. I am not 100 percent satisfied with the end result, not just because of it's nearly-finished state, but because I could have made it look much better with more time, less distraction and a bigger budget.

Alas, it was not meant to be, and I can't really see this being reworked into any other sort of product, so... into the "could have been" file this one goes...

The first image is the "final" design as it was left and the image immediately beneath it is the front of the table cloth. It depicts a range of ordinary folks reacting to the robot's rampage.

Here are some color rough variations, a few of which I much prefer over the end result. The client felt that the chosen colors would be too garish and wanted something a bit more toned down.
